Where to Unplug and Unwind Near Chesapeake Ridge: Elk Neck State Forest

With portions of Elk Neck State Forest once again open to the public, residents of Cecil County and parts surrounding can head out to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational facilities contained within the park. With over 3500 acres of land overseen by the state’s Department of Natural Resources and the Forest Service, the park has plenty of space for everyone. Sportsmen flock to the gamelands for hunting and to the shooting ranges for bow and rifle practice. Fitness enthusiasts make use of the extensive trail system for running, hiking, and cycling, while nature lovers (particularly birdwatchers) appreciate the biodiversity of the native plants, flowers, birds, and wildlife that populate the forest.

Admission is always free, and the park remains open from 8 am to 8 pm daily. Before your visit, be sure to visit the website for a full list of safety policies and precautions before heading out from your apartment in Maryland. Public parking is available at the Main Entrance off of Irishtown Road.
